Summer

Image

Summer is here after a very long year.

The woods are once again bursting with life and leaves,

The smell of blossoms drift on the wind along with the buzz bees

The song of birds and love fill up the silence of morning

The garden is planted, waiting grow

The kids are worn out and wet from squirt guns and a water hose.

The rooster crows from sun up to sun down, while his ladies scratch and peck

Yes, Summer is here and I will enjoy it all from my front deck!

Garden

We took advantage of the break in the weather to get our garden ready for planting. I cannot describe how purely in heaven I felt today behind the tiller, barefoot, working up the earth in preperation for the seeds and plants for our garden. I once read somewhere that to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow, and that is so true! This garden is more than simply a hobby to us, to me. This garden is how we feed ourselves, our kids through the winter months, as well as all summer. I have to put the work and effort into it, to make it produce. Every drop of sweat and every sunburn, aching muscle is earned with a smile as I see what all that effort produces.

Almost there

The orioles have returned from their long migration. The buds are finally bursting forth on their branches. We never really had so much a spring, more like straight from winter to summer. We should have already have plants in the ground but we are still waiting for warmer weather. A fire is burning in our fireplace right now. It is supposed to get down to 30 Degrees tonight. It has been a long week. Both of our kids have come down with pinkeye. So it has been nonstop work, with barely time to rest here and there, trying to keep our two year old from rubbing his eyes, and washing his hands and keeping everything disinfected all while doing everyday things. Yeah…to say the least I am pretty worn out. Meanwhile I continue to keep an eye on the weather and hope we can get our garden planted soon….our freezer is looking pretty empty.

Really Mother Nature?

Last night it was raining here, and now it’s snowing, and has been for the last few hours. I just am hoping that for Easter the weather will be nice and not snowing. I am ready for summer to be here already. Grilling outside, kids playing in the yard, family relaxing on the deck, and best of all a garden to tend to! Yep can’t wait!
